Photo: Gambian gossip around ‘the water cooler’
I have a tap in my compound where I can easily fetch water to run through my drinking filter or to fill my bucket bath. But every day, I pump from a nearby well to water a garden my training group planted down the road. For many people, a faraway well is their only source of water. Although there’s no obvious “line,” the women always know who’s next and it’s village gossip and giggles while they wait.
