Photo: My baby toma turns six months old
On her six-month birthday, Fatoumata Jessica was cooing on my doorstep!
My host sister from training village, Sainabou, delivered a healthy baby girl who was named after me and her grandmother (my namesake) in November. I told them they were welcome to visit any time and Sainabou’s husband promised he’d send them when the baby was a bit older. There are no little babies in my compound, let alone a little baby with my name, so I was ecstatic for her to visit.
My family and friends in Sibanor were equally excited for my baby toma to come. My siblings thought it was so cool that I had Gambian visitors, and my dad instantly snatched up the baby upon her arrival to ooh and ahh over her as if she were his granddaughter. It was adorable, and made me feel even more like part of the family.
Sainabou and I had a great visit catching up and this little bundle was a joy to host!
