Countdown to Chile: Mr. Postman delivers my school books

I leave for Santiago in 42 days!

The feeling of it all is starting to sink in a bit more. My dad paid off the balance on my tuition, and the books I ordered for the class arrived this week.

I’ve started to thumb through the books a bit as I read through the syllabus and other files my ESL teaching instructor sent me. I have a lot of work ahead of me … and just when I thought I was done with school forever. Ha. Figures. I am excited though. I’ve always liked school and learning, and am particularly thrilled to learn the skills for a whole new profession and adventure.

My class starts Jan. 9, and runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for four weeks. It’s an intense course designed to brush up my knowledge on the technicalities of English grammar and prepare me in writing lessons, coursework and tests for my classes. My course will teach me how to convey meaning in vocabulary and increase conversational fluency for my students.

I hope the training will help me land a job, so I can start providing others with the skills they need to achieve their goals. I can’t think of anything more rewarding or important than changing a life.
